A few projects from my workshop

A few projects from my workshop

I recently got interested in bone for making knives and spear points, from what I have read it was much more common to use bone than stone due to the ease of working with it....so here are my first attempts...

A clip point camp knife, hacked from a beef leg bone, hafted with poplar and pine pitch glue and wrapped with sinew, good little camp knife, it already has been blooded, got a nice slash across my left thumb for not respecting the material.....

Made a nice spear point as well....this was actually gonna be a knife blade about 8 inches long, but I used too much pressure in the vice and snapped the bone, therefore I made a campknife and a spear point from the same material!

Made me some Atl Atl's and darts as well, along with some blowguns....

I need a chance to field test the Atl Atl's, kinda hard to do in a basement with 7 foot ceilings... I been having a lot of fun firing the blowguns tho!!!!!!! They are surprisingly powerful and accurate

the first blowgun is a takedown version for my backpack....not that great, I think the 3/4" pipe is too large a bore for a heavy smoker to turn into an effective weapon, the 6 foot 1/2" copper pipe is the best ....very powerful and accurate.....the third blowgun is carved from a piece of poplar, decent little gun, looks great, but lacking the power of the copper pipe, I'm gonna make some new darts for it using paper cones instead of the cotton batting, I think that will improve its performance...

Detail of the carved gun....

and last but not least, another batch of pine pitch glue along with more pine pitch ready to be melted down...

I love that bone knife let us know how well it works does it hold an edge is it easy to sharpen it does have lots of cool factor...

I think bone was used allot but it does not last the test of time as it decays were stone did not...

I believe that blowguns are still prohibited in Canada, at least they still are on my law books.

"Former Prohibited Weapons Order, No. 6

12. The device commonly known as “Yaqua Blowgun”, being a tube or pipe designed for the purpose of shooting arrows or darts by the breath, and any similar device."

Your work looks wonderful! Bone, the original ceramic knife.

many laws are archaic and were put on the books to make someone feel all warm and fuzzy inside nothing more same goes for our long gun registry...
