Here's one of my favorites among the many that I have. It has been with me a long time and dressed more game than I care to remember.

So, here is a shot of my favorite bushcraft tools.
IMG_6450.JPG

18" Kukri
NATO issue Machete

Fallkniven S1
Victorinox Swiss Champ
Sawvivor
Gransfors-Bruks Small Forrest Axe
Survival Tin

The kukri and the machete I hardly ever take. It really depends on where i'm going and what I'm doing that dictates the tools I select. My Fallkniven is almost ALWAYS with me. with the GB SFA a close second.

Look forward to your comments.

These are my current regular use knives.

Flexcut Rough Carver - this is great for finer work, but I don't always carry it. If I am camping and have lots of gear I'll toss them in - I have a Flexcut detail blade as well. Really nice to work with but not overly practical for general duty.

Winchester hunting knife - I forget the model but it's 440 stainless and has been a very reliable and tough knife for the price. I love the way it fits my hand and I have done pretty much every thing with it. Has decent weight and okay balance. Not the best but I like it. I wear it on a chest belt.

Olympia folding Buck clone. 440 stainless as well. I have a pair of them I bought at a flea market 15 years ago and they are both still in excellent condition for the abuse I have thrown at them. I use them for all the grungy stuff I don't want to use my main knife for.

Jeep brand folding lock. Also 440 stainless but coated. This one is my luxury knife if you will. I don't use it often but I carry it in my work bag and use it here and there as needed. It has sentimental value beyond my other knives so I baby it.

I have many other blades I have collected over the years as well. One of my very favorite tools is my tomahawk.

Thanks, you got some pretty sweet looking blades too!

I have been considering a Kukri to replace my machete. I find the machete a little unsuited for most of what I use it for, and I am thinking a kukri might be a better choice. It seems like they would do very well against smaller saplings, chopping, and those thick prickle berry bushes. I like the reach of the machete, but I find them a little too flexy for what we have around here.

Maybe I just need a better machete

Nah, machetes are mostly for greenery like brush and vines. For wood, a kukri will probably do much better.

Lornix, are you interested in the kukri you see above? It's for sale. If you are interested I can post more pics and info. I'm in Canada, so no cross border waiting... Let me know.
